My uncle died on that island. Joseph Hankins. He went to take out a sniper and lost his life. So many brave men lost it all on this island. We live and fight for freedom in their honour.

War is so truly, hideously awful. I think WW2 and earlier gets glamorized quite a bit because there wasn't really any media to depict the true horrors of it. But it was utterly brutal, gruesome, and grisly. God rest the men that witnessed and were taken by it.
